AXBRIDGE

Cheddar 2.5 miles; Weston-super-Mare 8.5 miles; Bristol 19 miles

A delightful little town placed just outside of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Somerset. Axbridge boasts pretty little buildings and a fascinating history, it dates back to the reign of King Alfred the Great in the 9th century, the village is also home to the 15th century King John’s Hunting Lodge which is now a National Trust museum. This picturesque village was in fact the location for the Thatcher’s Cider Hot Air Balloon advert! In terms of facilities, Axbridge is home to one of the UK’s smallest cinemas with a little over 30 seats, a choice of pubs, a shop and a delightful tearoom. The town also hosts a number of popular events, festivals and carnivals throughout the year which would be worth tying into your holiday! For you more active guests, visit the nearby Mendip Hills with its range of walking paths accompanied by astounding scenery, the Cheddar Resevoir also sits on the outskirts of the village and offers a good range of watersports for you to try. The delightful village of Cheddar is nearby and well worth visiting, especially for you cheese lovers. The seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare is also within easy reach if a day at the beach is what you’re after.
